Background

Born and raised in the UK, I have spent three years living in Paris and thirteen in Barcelona, so my knowledge of my source languages and their cultures are excellent.

I began my translation career working in-house at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where I translated and adapted the university’s English website, helping them to attract more international students. I also spent five years teaching translation at the university’s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting.

In 2004 I started my own business. Since then, I have provided translation services for small and large companies, sports clubs, universities, academic authors and institutions (see my clients), specialising in macroeconomics, sport and higher education.

Macroeconomic reports

In 2008, I began translating documents on macroeconomics and development for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Among other projects, I have translated three editions of Latin American Economic Outlook from Spanish to English and have translated dozens of country notes from French to English for the annual African Economic Outlook report.

Since 2017, I have worked for several United Nations entities, including the United Nations Office at Geneva, the United Nations Office at Nairobi and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, the World Trade Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Meteorological Organization.

Many thanks for these comments and all your work on Latin American Economic Outlook. Based on my own revision of some of the text as well as feedback from my colleagues, we are very happy with your work. You have picked up on many details that had escaped our attention.

Sports translations

I have translated texts on a number of sports, including athletics (track & field), football (soccer), ice hockey and handball.

In sailing, I translate communications for Spindrift racing. I helped them to develop an innovative, high-quality communication programme during their 2015/16 Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, thus enhancing their value to their sponsors.

Timothy went out of his way to enrich his sailing-specific vocabulary and knowledge whilst working on our projects. He was also readily available during the unsocial and unpredictable hours that a trans-atlantic sailing race requires, and his genuine enthusiasm for the projects meant that we really felt like he was an additional member of the communications team from the outside. I would recommend Timothy without hesitation!
